Motor City Irish Fest - This Weekend!

The Motor City Irish Fest is this weekend, June 10th-12th at the Historical Greenmead Park on the corner of Newburgh and 8 Mile in Livonia. This years festival may be the best yet with headliners, The Druids and The Fitzgeralds. The Druids have rebuilt their band with a couple new members and for the first time will be adding a drummer. The Fitzgeralds from Toronto, two sisters and a brother who are all champion fiddlers and dancers. On top of these headliners we will have 17 other bands including Blackthorn, Crossbow, McSpillin, Wakefire, and more. We also have 6 schools of Irish Dance coming in to entertain you.

There will be a children's tent with a great program of magic, crafts, face painting, Irish dance lessons and so much more. We have Ring of Steel for all ages, a troupe of acrobats, sword fighters, fire shows and humor. Don't miss their shows.

At the Irish Fest there will be a great Cultural tent, this year highlighting the Dunleavy tradition in the Detroit area. Don't forget about our whiskey tastings, taught by a Whiskey expert, Elliot MacFarlane this year, using 3 Irish Whiskey's and 3 Scotch Whisky's and explaining the difference between them. This year you will get a commemorative glass with each tasting.

If you want to have a great time, don't miss the .001 K Race on Saturday. This is a lot of laughs and comes with a great T shirt, doughnut and a beer. There is an Opening Ceremony on Friday at 6:30, where we will be honoring Brian and Pam Dunleavy, a couple who has done so much for the Irish Community. Come to an Irish Mass on Sunday at noon for your Sunday services.

The Motor City Irish Fest committee works year round to make this Festival one that the Irish community in the Detroit area can be proud of. If you can volunteer, check out Sign Up Genius on the website. You can also help us by spreading the word. Word of mouth is our biggest advertisement. Like us on Facebook, share the festival posts or send email this to all of your friends and invite them to join you at the festival. Don't forget to hang your Rosary's in your tree for good weather for the Festival.

We hope to see you there!
